The ISM brings together a community of organic chemists and physico-chemists interested in molecular structures, working on their design, synthesis, characterization, reactivity and analysis in various environments. The expertise of the Institute is based on a number of key skills: theorists in quantum chemistry, molecular and reaction dynamics, synthetic chemists, physico-chemists (spectroscopy, photochemistry, molecular recognition and analysis), working in 10 research groups and 3 technical platforms.

As part of the Post-Petroleum Materials Research (PPM) Major Program project, we are recruiting a Researcher or postdoctoral fellow in organic chemistry W/M.

This program aims to rethink materials chemistry on the principle of a "circular chemistry", concerned with the sustainability of materials, more efficient and less energy-intensive, by minimizing waste, promoting the use of bio-resources, recycling, in situ monitoring of their use and/or their state of health and degradation.

Votre mission

This postdoctoral project focuses on the development of COFs (Covalent Organic Framework) whose monomers will be organic aromatic rotaxanes, attached to each other by boroxine or boronate type links. It is at the interface of organic chemistry, host-guest supramolecular chemistry, and 2D polymer chemistry.

Your mission will consist of designing and carrying out the synthesis of rigid conjugated macrocycles and molecular axes, conducting host-guest association tests, forming 2D COF materials by polymerization, analyzing products and writing progress reports.

# Organic and supramolecular synthesis

•        You reproduce the synthesis of rigid conjugated macrocycles 

•        You design and carry out the synthesis of molecular axes incorporating the selected guests 

•        You prepare the monomers based on organic aromatic rotaxanes

# Evaluation of host-guest interactions and 2D polymerization

•        You carry out association tests to determine the nature of the best guests

•        You proceed with the formation of 2D materials (COFs) by polymerization via boroxine or boronate links

# Analytical characterization and valuation

•        You ensure the in-depth analysis of synthesized products and 2D materials: NMR 1H, mass spectrometry, UV-Vis, IR, etc.

•        You prepare progress, optimization, and analysis reports

You contribute to the scientific dissemination of results within the research group and through articles.

Vos atouts / Vos talents

Holder of a PhD in Organic Chemistry, you have at least 2 years of experience in the field of synthesis and characterization of organic compounds and have acquired proven expertise in multi-step organic synthesis.

•        You are proficient in spectroscopic and analytical characterization techniques (NMR, IR, MS, UV-Vis)

•        You demonstrate excellent skills in writing scientific reports and communicating results.

•        You are autonomous and know how to work in a multidisciplinary team

•        You are proficient in English in a multicultural context

By joining this project, you will be integrated into the research group Organic synthesis and natural substances (ORGA). You will be supervised by Laurent CHABAUD (ISM) and Fabien DUROLA (CRPP).

Based in Talence, Gironde, FRANCE – access by tramway line B (stop « Peixotto ») buses, bike. The laboratory is near the city-centre of Bordeaux and about 60 Km of the Atlantic coasts.

Specific requirements: You’ll have to comply with the Working Laws in France

NB: the position is based in a laboratory in the Restrictive Zone, which requires an investigation prior to hiring, which can take up to 8 weeks.

18-month fixed-term contract

Gross monthly salary: from 2750 € to 3090 € according to experience and our grid
