Join the University of Bordeaux Laboratory for Material-to-System Integration (IMS)!
The laboratory was born in 2007 from the merger of three Bordeaux research units. It focuses its research activity on the field of Systems Science and Engineering, the convergence of Information and Communication Sciences and Technologies (STIC), and Sciences for Engineers (SPI).
It is structured in 10 research groups, each with their own expertise and team. For more information, please visit.
For this position, we are recruiting Post-doctoral researcher for the systemic modelling of the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) value chain.
The deployment of sustainable aviation fuels, or SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel), is one of the essential measures to respond in the short term to the challenges of transition and de-fossilization of the air sector.
SAF are alternative fuels produced from bio-based resources, or synthetic fuels (e-fuels). Prior to the development of an economically viable SAF sector, it is necessary to define a functional supply chain, which will also have to be piloted in real time once the sector has been set up. The establishment and optimization of this supply chain will depend, among other things, on the region, the demand due to air traffic, the infrastructures and available logistic elements, the climate and agro-economic and social conditions, but also (and above all) uncertainties inherent in the variability associated with these factors.
Today’s globalised world, characterized by increased uncertainty, as illustrated by the successive health and environmental crises of the last twenty years, as well as volatile geopolitical interests, as illustrated by the current crises in Europe and Asia, remind the vulnerability of supply chains to unpredictable disruptions.
The sustainability of a SAF supply chain, all elements of which are interlinked and influence each other, therefore requires building resilience capacities that ensure the availability of SAF at the desired time and place, at competitive rates and without damage to the environment or food.
For these reasons, a controlled holistic integration of all the logistics circuits involved is essential. A key technology tool for this holistic integration is the Digital Twin of the SAF supply chain.
Your mission consists of modelling the SAF chain and the logistics chains involved, integrating in the optimization problem, the creation of intangible value (through data collected from the customer and various nodes in the supply, production and distribution chain).
It will therefore also be a matter of identifying and prioritizing the SAF life cycle data, as well as formalizing the data service capable of serving as a support for the implementation of a digital twin.
#Regional and national mapping
• Identification of regional and national links in the SAF supply chain
• Conceptual modelling of the SAF supply chain
• Identification of regional and national actors in the SAF supply chain
• Exchange with the major players on data, rules and constraints concerning their links
#Modeling of logistics flows and data circuit
• Quantification of the parameters and indicators of the conceptual model
• Enhancement of the SAF supply chain conceptual model
• Determination of the means of data capture
• Definition of a data circuit management framework, from their sources to their consumption points
You have a PhD degree in Industrial Engineering, Computer Science or Production Sciences and Techniques?
To complete the proposed assignments, we are looking for a person with:
• Modelling skills: knowledge or familiarity with System languages will be greatly appreciated)
• Knowledge of Supply Chain: familiarity with software tools for flow modelling and control would be an advantage
• Project management, oral communication and writing skills
• Demonstrating autonomy? especially in meetings with field actors, organization and rigour
Experience in the field of logistics is desired as well as a first experience in the field of digital twins (appreciated, not mandatory).
Do you recognize yourself? Apply!
