Ecosystem

The University of Bordeaux maintains long-term relationships with companies of all sizes. It has developed an ecosystem that enables it to offer a range of services that meet the needs of socio-economic players: services, research partnerships, initial or lifelong training and sponsorship initiatives.

The University works closely with academic partners but also with companies operating in and around Bordeaux, companies based in France as well as international groups. From simple services and joint laboratories to the CIFRE grant and licences to use any of its 450 patents, the University offers a wide range of solutions that foster innovation. To work as effectively as possible with business sectors, whether directly with companies or with intermediaries representing those sectors (competitiveness clusters, business clusters, technology resource centres, etc.), the University has organised relevant interactions with support from three entities (affiliated companies or foundations) in contact with the socio-economic world.

Aquitaine Science Transfert

The Société d’accélération de transfert technologique Aquitaine Science Transfert (SATT AST) is the technology transfer acceleration company that plays an essential role in promoting the transfer of research work to the market. The University of Bordeaux has entrusted it with two tasks:

  • Support research units with negotiating their research agreements with industrial partners (partnership agreements, CIFRE, etc.). Within AST, the team helps laboratories with concluding research agreements in line with the University’s industrial partnership strategy.

  • Identify, protect, possibly fund the maturation (increase in TRL) and ensure the transfer of findings with the potential of being transferred to the market. If the chosen way of transferring research work to the market is to create a startup to use technology developed by Bordeaux laboratories, AST will also incubate the startup.

ADERA

ADERA (Association for the Development of Education and Research in Aquitaine), an organisation that has existed for 50 years, on 1 July 2020 became a SAS (simplified joint-stock company) and an affiliate of the University. The University of Bordeaux has entrusted it with managing finances and human resources (in the event of recruitment) relating to partnership and service agreements with industrial partners. ADERA also offers a technology transfer unit (CTT) that acts as an interface between technology platforms and companies to provide services.
