Skills and Professions of the Future (CMA: Compétences et métiers d'avenir)

The “Skills and Professions of the Future” Call for Expressions of Interest was launched as part of the France 2030 national plan, whose purpose is to prepare tomorrow’s France through major strategic investment choices to benefit citizens, and a strong ecological ambition. The idea is to produce better, live better, and understand the world better. It is also a question of correcting France’s shortcomings in certain historical sectors and creating new industries with a promising future.

The challenges of reindustrialisation and sovereignty are generating significant needs in the fields of digital technology, health, energy, food, and transitions in general. In addition to the necessity of supporting the transition of professions, with millions of workers to be trained by 2030, France 2030 aims to contribute to training 400,000 people per year with a horizon of 2030 and achieving 1 million new graduates at the operative, technical, assistant engineer, engineer, master, and doctoral levels by 2030, above all in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) disciplines.

The Skills and Professions of the Future Call for Expressions of Interest (AMI CMA - Appel à manifestation d'intérêt compétences et métiers d'avenir) is primarily intended to fund education, engineering training, and awareness projects in response to the objectives set by France 2030 in line with public policy adopted by the government. It may also be necessary to finance additional assessments relating to needs for skills, training, and measures to boost appeal.

The University of Bordeaux is the award-winner and principle partner of four projects:

  • ELENA Vocational Training Qualification (CAP - Certificat d’aptitude professionel ELENA)
  • AI Vocational Training Qualification (CAP IA - Intelligence Artificielle)
  • Digital Health Vocational Training Qualification (CAP Santé numérique)
  • BIOSPACE Vocational Training Qualification (CAP BIOSPACE)

This project is supported by government funding administered by the French National Research Agency (ANR) under the France 2030 programme, with the reference numbers ‘ANR-23-CMAS-0017’, ‘ANR-23-CMAS-0021’ and ‘ANR-23-CMAS-0018’.

The AMI CMA also represents a major opportunity for the University of Bordeaux to strengthen its national and international position in these promising sectors. The 13 million euros raised in wave 2 constitutes a very powerful mechanism in this regard. They will contribute to the momentum developed by the institution in the context of its Strategic Horizon 2030 plan to transform its educational offer and make it more open to major societal and environmental issues and to the world of socio-economics. It is also a question of meeting the needs of local industries in close correlation with the priorities of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The University of Bordeaux thus plays a coordinating role across the region and provides the opportunity to build strengthened partnerships with key players.
