Institute of Labour

Updated on:

The University of Bordeaux's Institute of Labour participates in training trade union officials, who, due to their responsibilities, feel the need to round out their knowledge with a university-level education.

The Institute is affiliated with the University of Bordeaux College of Law, Political Science, Economics and Management. Its board of directors is made up of academics, representatives from the three main trade union organisations (CFDT, CGT, CGT-FO), the director of the Regional Directorate for companies, competition, consumption, labour and employment (DIRECCTE), the President of the Nouvelle Aquitaine Regional Council and an administrative staff representative (BIATSS).

The mission of the Bordeaux Institute of Labour is to:

  • organise economic, social and trade union training sessions, giving participants the right to paid leave as indicated in Articles L. 3142-7 et seq. of the Labour Code
  • organise training sessions for employee advisers, labour court advisers, elected members of the works council and members of the Health, Safety and Working Conditions Committee (CHSCT)
  • conduct any study relating to labour, employment and social protection issues
  • organise an annual symposium, in March, on a topical issue
  • organise lecture series
  • manage the Gérard Lyon-Caen documentation/resource centre
