Xavier Blanc, Vice-President for Artificial Intelligence

Xavier Blanc was appointed Vice-President for Artificial Intelligence by Dean Lewis, President of the University of Bordeaux, in March 2026.

Born in 1975, Xavier Blanc is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Bordeaux. He studied at the University of Villetaneuse before obtaining an Advanced Postgraduate Diploma (DEA) at Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris. He then completed his PhD thesis at the Paris 6 Computer Science Laboratory (LIP6) as part of an industrial partnership with EDF.

He began his career as a senior lecturer at Pierre and Marie Curie University within LIP6, before being appointed a professor at the University of Bordeaux in 2010. In 2015, he was appointed a junior member of the Institut universitaire de France (IUF), a distinction that highlights the quality and originality of his research.

His research lies within the field of software engineering, with a particular focus on automated software testing and the contribution of artificial intelligence to the design of complex systems. In particular, it aims to develop approaches based on autonomous agents capable of improving software’s reliability and robustness.

Highly committed to the structuring and development of research, Xavier Blanc ran the Bordeaux Computer Science Research Laboratory (LaBRI) from 2021 to 2026, helping to expand the laboratory’s influence and contributing to the emergence of interdisciplinary projects, particularly in the fields of artificial intelligence and digital health.

Appointed Vice-President for Artificial Intelligence at the University of Bordeaux in 2026, he is working to structure, bring together and strengthen artificial intelligence initiatives at university level in association with research, education and knowledge transfer issues.

The University of Bordeaux has key strengths in the area of artificial intelligence. The challenge today lies in pooling these strengths, developing controlled uses and positioning the institution as a leading stakeholder for the benefit of research, education and society.
