Aurélie Bedel was born in 1980. She obtained her State Doctor of Pharmacy Diploma in Amiens and, following a four-year residency, completed a Specialised Postgraduate Diploma in medical biology in Toulouse.

Alongside her medical training, she obtained a Master’s and PhD in pathophysiology after securing a researcher position with INSERM in Toulouse.

She joined the University of Bordeaux in 2008 to begin a university hospital career and was appointed Senior Lecturer and Hospital Practitioner (MCUPH) with the Department of Medicine in 2011.

Aurélie Bedel is a biologist at Pellegrin University Hospital’s biochemistry laboratory, where she specialises in neurobiochemistry. Her research into gene therapy via genome editing, its efficacy and the risks associated with chromosomal instability allowed her to defend her HDR in 2022 and be appointed University Professor and Hospital Practitioner (PUPH) in 2024.

She currently conducts her research at the BRIC (Bordeaux Research Institute of Oncology), where she is a member of the executive committee.

She provides teaching for health-related programmes, including the PASS/LAS (Specific Health Access Pathway/Health Access Bachelor’s), the second and third years of medical training, postgraduate level, and the Master’s in Biology and Master’s in Health. She is responsible for several course modules and the introductory research course for health students, which is designed to raise their awareness of research and enable them to subsequently undertake a dual course of study in health and science. At national level, she is Vice-President of the Association of Medical Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Teachers and co-leader of a working group on attractiveness.

Aurélie Bedel is very much involved in university life. She has been a member of the board of the Doctoral School of Life and Health Sciences since 2023. She was elected to the University of Bordeaux’s Board of Directors in 2022 before then joining the Research Committee in 2025.

She is involved at national level in the National Council of Universities (CNU) 44.01 (2016–2024), and in terms of research evaluation, in the INSERM CSS2 committee (since 2022), the scientific council of the Biotherapies Priority Research Programme and Equipment (since 2022) and by regularly participating in committees of the High Council for the Evaluation of Research and Higher Education.

From 2022 to 2026, Etienne Duguet charged her with the task of co-leading a think tank on interdisciplinarity for the University of Bordeaux, alongside Professor Xavier Prevost.

Aurélie Bedel was appointed Vice-President for Interdisciplinarity by Dean Lewis, President of the University of Bordeaux, in February 2026.

Interdisciplinarity is not an end in itself; it must be a strategic lever for a more cross-sectional, enriching approach. Let’s build on the momentum created at the University of Bordeaux to carry out groundbreaking and innovative research.
