Pascal Lecroart, professor of geology and sedimentary biogeochemistry was elected Vice-President for education and university life by the Comission for Education and University Life on 3rd February 2022 on the proposal of Dean Lewis, President of the University of Bordeaux.
Born in 1968 in Amiens, Pascal Lecroart entered the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Lyon in 1988 and specialised in earth sciences to prepare a magistère and the agrégation teaching diploma in life and earth sciences, which he obtained in 1991. Teaching has always been a strong professional objective for him, but after being in contact with research professors at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Lyon he developed a taste for research as well.
In 1993, he joined the University of Toulouse Paul Sabatier to pursue a Doctorate in internal geophysics and defended his thesis in 1997. He was recruited as a lecturer at University Bordeaux I. He joined the EPOC laboratory (Environments and Paleo-environments of the Oceans and Continents) (in French) to study biogeochemical flows in natural sedimentary environments or those disturbed by human activity.
Pascal Lecroart was appointed university professor in 2009 and elected director of the Earth and Marine Sciences training and research unit in 2011. In 2013, the presidency of the University Bordeaux I asked him to contribute to the project to merge the Bordeaux universities. Dean Lewis, then President of the University Bordeaux I, entrusted him with the responsibility of building the project for the University of Bordeaux College of Science and Technology. He was elected director of that college in 2014 and re-elected in 2019.
During his eight-year term in office, he has been committed to supporting the transformation of the educational offer to improve student success by relying on a very dynamic team and community.
Over the past two years, he has been especially involved in teaching students about the major societal and sustainable development issues, as well as in promoting the quality of life in the workplace for staff at all levels.
This vice-presidency is a new challenge for me. We'll be working closely with all the training components and administrative departments concerned in order to accompany the transformation of the University of Bordeaux training offer as best as possible and to strengthen the students' and staff's feeling of belonging to our community.
