An engineer by training, Etienne Duguet began working on his Doctorate in 1989 in the LCPO (Organic Polymers Chemistry Laboratory) in Bordeaux on the synthesis and polymerisation of cyclosilazanes within the framework of an industrial training-by-research agreement with the company Rhône-Poulenc (now Solvay). Although he had intended on pursuing an industrial career, the economic crisis in 1992 upset his plans and prompted him to apply for a lecturer-researcher position at the Institute of Condensed Matter Chemistry - Bordeaux (ICMCB).

He developed a research activity and put together a team that he coordinated until 2021 on the topic of hybrid organic-inorganic nano-materials for optics and healthcare. He was also deputy director of the ICMCB for 5 years.

At the same time, he participated in creating a DESS (Diploma of Higher Specialised Studies) on biomaterials and medical devices. He was a member of the board of the Chemistry Training Unit and of the university's scientific board, contributing to the preliminary work of the new University of Bordeaux. In 2011, he coordinated the draft proposal for the LAMADEus Laboratory of Excellence - LabEx (Advanced Materials by design), which he directed until 2021.

Whether when creating and directing the DESS or the LabEx, or within the framework of his research, part of which is regularly co-financed by industrial companies, Etienne Duguet interacts extensively with the socio-economic world.

This mission is aligned with the one I have been carrying out for the past two years. I am proud to be able to contribute to implementing the roadmap that's been adopted by the university to intensify innovation. Its objective is to strengthen our image as an innovative and enterprising university for the whole community.
