Frédéric Bos obtained a Master degree in civil engineering and then an Advanced Studies Diploma (DEA) and a PhD in mechanics from University Bordeaux I in 1995. He was appointed lecturer at UniversityBordeaux I's Institute of Technology civil engineering department, in September 1995. Since September 2006, he has been a university professor at the Bordeaux Institute of Technology, assigned to the civil engineering department and affiliated with the Institute of Mechanical Engineering - I2M laboratory. His teaching activities are entirely carried out in the civil engineering - sustainable construction department in the fields of structural and construction mechanics.

At the same time, Frédéric Bos has developed his research activities in a constantly-evolving context at the Bordeaux Laboratory of Wood Rheology (lin French), then at the US2B and finally at I2M. His research work reflects the changes in the laboratories and concerns wood-based composite materials, the diagnosis of civil engineering structures and the energy performance of buildings.

Head of the civil engineering department (in French) from 2007 to 2012, Frédéric Bos became director of the University Bordeaux I's Institute of Technology (IUT) in 2012 and then director of Bordeaux IUT (in French) in 2016, a position he held until 2021.
As part of that mission, he piloted the merger of the 3 University Institutes of Technology by reorganising the administration and drawing up a multi-year contract of objectives, resources and services with the university. He developed partnerships and resources, initiated teaching transformations and the creation of cross-disciplinary training programmes (robotics, health technology, energy). Frédéric Bos was also behind the creation of the Coh@bit platform in 2014, which includes a FabLab and a TechnoShop. The FabLab focuses on teaching, while the TechnoShop is a technology integration and development facility that strengthens the IUT's visibility within the university and adds a societal dimension to the technology transfer carried out.

Frédéric Bos was appointed Vice-President for property assets of the University of Bordeaux by Dean Lewis in February 2022.

My goal is to adapt the role of property assets to environmental and societal challenges while ensuring their economic sustainability.
