After graduating with an Advanced Studies diploma (DEA) in sociology from the Sorbonne and a thesis on learning transfer at school from Paris-Descartes University, Éric Dugas focused his work on the theme of physical involvement, health/relational well-being, empathy, particularly among people with special education needs. In the context of human otherness, he also leads projects concerning serious illnesses (cancer and rare diseases), particularly in relation to school and university inclusiveness. Appointed professor in 2012, Éric Dugas began teaching educational science in Bordeaux at the Institute of Education (INSPE) - Aquitaine (in French). At the same time, he quickly became active in university life. He took over the co-leadership of a research team and is currently co-leader of LACES, the Laboratory of Cultures – Education – Societies (in French).

At the time of the university merger in 2014, he became deputy director and then director (December 2015) of the research department in Human and Social Sciences and health officer at INSPE Aquitaine until 2016.

In 2014, he was also appointed by University of Bordeaux President Manuel Tunon de Lara as mission officer in charge of Disabilities. During that term, he implemented the first Disability Master Plan (2015-2021) and continued his mission during the second term in 2018. In 2021, he co-designed the second and current Disability Master Plan (2021-2026).

He was reappointed in that role in February 2022 by Dean Lewis, President of the University of Bordeaux.

Facilitating the life goals of students and staff with disabilities at the University of Bordeaux, better than just social cohesion together, acting together would be an ambitious humanist objective...
