Whether you're a student, high-level athlete, artist, elected student representative, disabled or suffering from a long-term illness, a volunteer or an employee... The university provides support to help you make the most of your opportunities and achieve your educational objectives.

Contact the special needs coordinator in the PHASE department on your campus at the start of the academic year. Contact details are listed at the bottom of the page by field of study.

Get personalised support

If you are:

  • disabled or suffering from a long-term illness,
  • a high-level athlete (registered on the lists of the French Ministry of National Education, Youth and Sports or comparable) with a good level, recognised by the University of Bordeaux's Commission of High-Level Sports,
  • a confirmed artist, recognised by the University of Bordeaux Art Commission,
  • an elected student representative (university or CROUS),
  • a volunteer (civic service, operational reserve, military volunteer, non-profit activity), employee, person with dependents, registered for two degrees (depending on the programmes).

You can benefit from:

  • close, local assistance,
  • an assessment of your needs and how to accommodate them,
  • special contacts in your programme branch.

 

 

 

 

 

A personalised and adaptable support plan

  • Curriculum adjustments (staggered courses, priority for tutorials/practical work groups) 
  • Access to note-taking
  • Educational assistance (tutoring, study skills and subject guidance)
  • Accessibility and technical aid (marking of sites, loan of equipment, adapted teaching materials)
  • Aid in communicating (sign language interpreters, cued speech, communication interface)
  • Specific study arrangements (based on educational rules of the diploma)
  • Alternative exam arrangements: extra time, assistance from exam scribe, subjects in adapted formats (braille, raised print, etc.)
  • Deferred exam sessions (high-level athletes)

How to proceed 

  1. Make an appointment as soon as possible with the PHASE department special needs coordinator on your campus
  2. Create an individual file
  3. Get a personalised assessment of your needs and limitations
  4. Receive an adapted support plan, which can be modified throughout the year
  5. Benefit from support and follow-up throughout your programme

Multi-site services

  • Available on campuses in Bordeaux Victoire, Carreire, Peixotto-Bordes (Talence), Montesquieu (Pessac) and Gradignan
  • By appointment on campuses in Agen, Périgueux, La Bastide, Bayonne, Mont-de-Marsan, Pau, Dax, Villenave d'Ornon and Mérignac

Students with special needs

Alternative exam arrangements

If you have special needs, you can request alternative arrangements for your exams.

  1. Download the medical file,
  2. Fill it in (you can ask the PHASE department for advice at this stage), 
  3. Make an appointment for a video consultation with one of our doctors on Doctolib (in French) or by calling +33 (0)5 33 51 42 00 to get a medical opinion,
  4. After assessing your situation, the university will issue a decision.

Accessibility at the university

  • The university's website meets the main accessibility standards and is classified as "Accessibility: partially compliant". 
  • A certain number of rooms have been specially equipped for students with special needs in the CROUS university halls of residence and accommodations. For assistance with the procedures, please contact the PHASE department as soon as possible.
  • The University of Bordeaux is accessible to deaf or hard of hearing people thanks to the Acceo solution (in French).
