You want to participate in an innovative research project?
Join the Institute of Genetic and Cellular Biochemistry (IBGC) - University of Bordeaux!
The IBGC is a co-supervised research laboratory of the CNRS and the University of Bordeaux. Its activities are dedicated to basic research in biology. The department is part of the ecosystem of excellence of the University of Bordeaux (Department of Biological and Medical Sciences). It is also part of the regional research network Oncosphère, dedicated to cancer research and supported by the Regional Council of Nouvelle Aquitaine.
Within the framework of the Pulse Research Network (RRI) «Frontier of Life», we are recruiting a post-doctoral researcher in cell biology whose work will focus on the study of intracellular overpopulation and cellular aging.
The aim of this research network is to understand and reorganize living systems from the molecular level to the cell, tissue and organ levels.
Our multidisciplinary project uses fission yeast as a genetic model to study the interaction between chronological life and macromolecular clutter.
To do this, we will focus on:
- the implementation of new imaging and analytical tools for tracking intracellular fluidity
- the characterization of intracellular biophysics throughout the aging process
- how the modulation of these properties can have a direct impact on the chronological lifespan.
Cells are self-organized in membrane-enclosed organelles, where energy-driven, active transport events provide spatiotemporal control of cellular processes through the delivery of macromolecules to distinct compartments. In contrast, passive, diffusion-mediated transport was not thought to be regulated.
This paradigm was recently challenged when it was discovered that cells also control their diffusional properties. Indeed, budding and fission yeast cells display a remarkable increase in internal stiffness, density and macromolecular crowding when entering quiescence upon glucose starvation. Similar observations were made in bacteria under conditions of low metabolic activity, suggesting that the capacity of cells to modulate their fluidity and the diffusivity of their content may be part of a conserved response to alterations in the environment.
Holder of a PhD in Bilogy, Biphysics or related specialities linked to our project, your are motivated to work at the interface of genetics, biology and physics in an interactive and international environment.
· You are very familiar with live cell imaging techniques and image analysis software
· You demonstrate a collaborative spirit and autonomy in your activities
· You have abilities to work in a multicultural working environment: English is the laboratory’s language
The + of this position: You will be integrated into the SyntheCell team and benefit from the support of the multidisciplinary team to apply for post-doctoral fellowships to extend your involvement in this project.
More information:
Based in Bordeaux – access by tramway line A (stop « Saint Augustin ») buses, bike.
The laboratory is near the city-centre of Bordeaux and about 60 Km of the Atlantic coast.
