Objectifs et compétences

Objectifs :
In this course, students will study the various and complex aspects of addiction considered as a specific behavior from multiple fields of research. They will learn the definition, varieties and epidemiology of addictions and the issue of substance and non-substance addictions and the relative role of drugs in this process. A special focus will be applied to the descriptive phenomenology of addictive behaviors from different research perspectives. The issue of human and animal models of addiction will be also addressed in addition to some of the neurobiological mechanisms in relation to these models. They will also consider the treatment and prevention of addiction in humans.

Compétences :
  • Define how modern Science works in a global world (from conceptual to political issues)

  • Design experimental protocols
  • Make an effective literature search

  • Have in-depth knowledge of at least one specialized Neurosciences field
  • Develop basic findings and find applications in order to reach to clinical, pharmaceutical and biotechnological targets in brain research

  • Neurosciences display a very extensive range of interests, from the molecular level to cognition and even further (societal Neuroscience…). Additional specific learning outcomes in a related field can thus spread from mathematics or physics to psychology or sciences of education and cannot be detailed here
