Objectifs et compétences
This program is specially designed for qualified undergraduate and graduate students majoring in the field of Biomedical sciences (Neurosciences). This 2-week intensive series of lectures and laboratory work will give students a unique opportunity to learn directly from distinguished Tsukuba University researchers and cultivate their expertise. It will be also a time to make international friendships and have a truly unforgettable experience in Japan.

- Define how modern Science works in a global world (from conceptual to political issues)
- Look for and apply for an international PhD position
- Find and get appropriate complementary training/education at the international level
- Process and analyse data using appropriate tools including specialised software
- Interact regularly with native English speakers without strain for either party
- Produce clear, detailed texts in English on a wide range of subjects and explain precisely a viewpoint on a topical issue
- Work independently on specific research tasks
- Work in a transversal, multidisciplinary way and participate in team effort in an international environment
- Communicate effectively in English and native language on the procedures followed and the results yielded by experiments with the matching interpretation to diverse audiences using a range of media (from research papers to public communications)
- Examine their own practice at all levels in a critical manner and modify accordingly, including find appropriate information and counselling to do so.
- Apply the basic philosophy of scientific and technical thinking and consider ethical issues related to scientific research
- Make an effective literature search
- Have in-depth knowledge of at least one specialized Neurosciences field
- Formulate appropriate questions and propose effective investigations to complex Neurosciences issues: 5.1. Identify and critically asses theoretical and practical approaches to develop appropriate strategies of investigation 5.2 Critically review specialized bibliography 5.3 Monitor and evaluate results
- Develop and apply appropriate research methodologies (including proteomics, genomics, brain imaging, modelling…) and modern research tools (including software) for investigating brain research issues.
- Examine their own practice in a critical manner and modify accordingly, including reflecting on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of brain research
- Have a general, precise and critical overview of the fields of Neurosciences, in all their aspects, from normal functioning to brain diseases and in adjacent fields (Physiology, Biology, Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Science) 2.1 Functional neuroanatomy 2.2 Neurodevelopment 2.3 Molecular and cellular Neurobiology 2.4 Neurogenetics and neurogenomics 2.5 Neurophysiology and cell imaging 2.6 Neuropharmacology 2.7 System neurosciences 2.8 Behavioural & cognitive neurosciences 2.9 Neuroendocrinology and neuro-immunology 2.10 Computational and theoretical neurosciences
- Neurosciences display a very extensive range of interests, from the molecular level to cognition and even further (societal Neuroscience…). Additional specific learning outcomes in a related field can thus spread from mathematics or physics to psychology or sciences of education and cannot be detailed here
